Memorial Day Fun

Today, we started tearing out the old Formica counter and backsplash. It did not want to leave peacefully, but wouldn't you know, tucked away behind that tightly sealed back piece were some sixty year old gems...

A pamphlet from a window company, an old dental appt. card from 1975, a postcard from Mexico (dated 1957), and an old handwritten recipe for Pineapplesauce Cake.
I am going to make this cake, and when I do, I will report back on one of Mrs. Schoenherr's favorite recipes...
(It must be Mrs. Schoenherr's, because she was the lady of the house for all those years)

After the fun in the kitchen, Terry went upstairs to continue his project of filling the holes in the walls where radiators used to be.

And I finished painting what will be Sandy's room. It turned out nice. All we need now is to hang her drapes, and install some shoe molding along the base to finish off the room.

When we returned home, Terry was determined to grill chicken... even in the pouring rain.

Happy Memorial Day !!!
