1/2 Bath Redo

We have three projects to get done before summer comes:

1: Second story half bath, new tile and new vanity.
2: New molding throughout the first floor living and dining room
3: Buffet style cabinets in the dining room.

Here we go...
We got started on the half bath upstairs. Yesterday, we went to Home Depot and bought the tile, but they didn't have a vanity we liked, so we went to Lowes and found the perfect vanity, but they were out of stock; we went to three different Lowes to get the vanity we wanted. So the whole night was wasted driving across town, back and forth.

Terry did the demo: he had to jackhammer out the old ceramic base molding,
and he tore out two layers of tile.

Time to remove the toilet and the old style sink.

That wasn't too hard...

Laying out the tile to measure for cuts.

This space is so small, only 30 square feet, so we were able to splurge on some nice tile.
It is Italian porcelain, in 6 x 24 inch planks, made to look like reclaimed wood.
I love it.

There's where the toilet ended up...

Terry made all the cuts, and mixed up the thin set, and now I get to work.

The cuts around the toilet are always the tricky part.

Done. Tomorrow, I grout.

New faucet for the new sink and vanity.

The vanity is still sitting in the garage, and I forgot to take a picture.

This project isn't going to take long at all.

Upstairs We Go...

We are officially calling it quits in the basement,
for now.
Spring is here and it's time to do a couple of projects upstairs,
before summer hits, and then we head outside.

Here's the summary:

Terry wanted to drywall in the laundry room,
but I said no no, not on the priority list. Maybe next year.

So I painted the studs and everything else,
with some leftover paint I had, and it looks fine for now.

Terry found a nice piece of wood to finish the basement stairs.
He's putting coats of stain and poly on it.

Some more black paint on the trim...

I finally painted the entryway to the bathroom...

It's all done, for now.
We still want to put in a ceiling,
but no no, not now.
Maybe next year.

There's the final piece that finishes the staircase, and it looks great.
I still need to add one more coat of black trim paint,
and Terry wants to stain the hand rail,
but those are little jobs we can do on a rainy day.

There comes a time when you just have to stop,
and make a decision that you cannot do all the jobs you want,
and you must take a break for a while, and come out of the basement.

Oh my gosh, I remember saying the same thing last year at this time.

Upstairs we go...

Kitchen Shelf

I've been waiting for this for a long time...

He's finally hanging me a shelf
in the kitchen. Yay.

There it is. I finally have a place for my little crock pot collection.
Thanks to my sweetie for making it just the way I wanted.

Now, what to do with my larger size crock pot collection ???

I gotta stop buying these things.

Gotta Get Out of This Basement

Still working on enclosing the nasty place under the basement stairs.

Grouting my mosaic tile art...

This one was fun,
guess where it's going?

There's alot of finish work detail going on with these stairs.

There's the tile picture...

Tucked up there in in the corner.

It looks cute and fills in a big dead space.

Seems like we're forever working
 on the details of projects.

We've got to get these last couple
 basement things done,
 because we're moving back upstairs.

I have some big plans for Terry...

Project Colonoscopy

We've been working on a cheap fix
 for covering up the guts
under the basement stairs (including the sump pump).

Terry built a cool door, with cedar.

I am going to fill in the
dead space above with mosaic tile.

Now he is working on the remainder of the wall.

He also did some finish work
on the doorway to the bathroom.

Just getting started on my tile project.

There he is...
all prepped for his colonoscopy.
He's so cute.

He was so hungry when he got home,
he didn't even care how he had just been violated.

I made him a "Grand Slam" breakfast,
and he was so happy.

Long day.

Carry on...

Art Studio in the Basement

Terry is building me a special shelf,
to hold my millions of tiles for mosaic art.

There it is,
now I'm painting it...

Looks awesome.

I threw some white paint on the new door in the basement too.

Terry is working on a door for under the basement stairs.

Filling up the cubby holes
with tiles and other art supplies.

Now I can keep my tiles organized.

My great new shelves gave me inspiration for a big project.
Couldn't wait to get started.

Good Weekend

These pictures are in bad order,
it was a busy weekend.

Terry ordered parts for the dryer,
and worked his magic.

He saved the 25 year old dryer,
I think, for the fourth time.

Full moon, and ice over snow,
made it look like we live on a lake.

It was so cool, we couldn't stop looking at it.

Still working on some finishing details
 for the bathroom downstairs.

This nasty place under the porch needed to go away...

Back to the Detroit Salvage Company...
for a door.

Finally put up the outside walls
for the bathroom.

Did six loads of laundry,
even rugs, dryer's working great.

Twenty bucks for a solid wood door at the salvage yard.

Terry put it on barn door rollers,
and it looks awesome.

I was just trying to be funny.
He was quick with the camera.

It was good cake...
