The Bathroom is Done !!!

There it is,
when we moved in...

We instantly fell in love
with the original look of this 1949 bathroom.

The green and black tile, the old fixtures,
and the original box weave floor tile.

But as time wore on,
and we actually lived in this tiny bathroom,
some things became impossible to deal with.

Four adults sharing one shower
will bring to light some important details.

The reason we decided to redo the bathroom,
was because there was no exhaust fan,
which caused the bathroom to steam up
so bad that water dripped down the walls,
and mold started to grow everywhere.

Trying to keep it clean was simply impossible,
and the grout in the shower was disintegrating.

Putting an exhaust fan in a two story house
 meant gutting the ceiling,
and gutting the ceiling turned into,
 Why not ?

Why not gut everything,
and make it all nice?

Forty days...
and two thousand dollars,
(Terry working overtime)
and we have a brand new beautiful bathroom.

Bigger, better shower,
 so clean...

Terry couldn't help himself.
He got the first shower...

I sat on the toilet,
and bugged him the whole time.

This project was probably the hardest yet,
but we are so thrilled with
the end result.

I will get in that shower tomorrow morning.

Day #40 Bath Redo

I said the bathroom would be officially done on day #40,
but I guess I was over confident.

Terry got home from work
and we had to deal with a flat tire,
which took some time.

We worked on the plumbling for the bathtub.

First, I had to help Kevin clean out his closet,
because the plumbing is in the wall of his closet,
which we needed to get at.

There it is.

Terry hooked up the showerhead...

the knobs, the faucet, the drain...

We turned on the water,
and so far, so good.

I caulked around the edges of the tub,
and I sealed all of the grout.

All that's left is the shower curtain rod.

We didn't get a chance to get it today,
but we want to let the tub reglazing cure
 until the weekend anyway.

So, we are gonna call this project done.

What are we going to do next ???

Day #39 Bath Redo

Hung the toilet paper holder.

The towel rack was a challenge.

I sealed the floor grout.

Now for the shower/tub plumbing.

Terry got it started,
but he'll work on it some more tomorrow.

There's the towel bar.

So we can use the toilet and sink now,
just can't shower in here yet.

We're going to let the tub reglazing
 cure until the weekend.

Day #38 Bath Redo

Just a couple more days,
and we will be done with this bathroom renovation.

Beautiful new flooring,
is going to make my OCD kick in,
trying to keep it clean...

I need a special size curtain,
so I hand sewed this one,
until I can find one just right.

The mirror is my favorite thing.
It's giant.

Tonight, Terry finished the top rails
 for the wood boards.

I caulked and painted.

Behind the door.

The tub reglazing is still curing.
Can't do plumbing here yet...

This bathroom is so small,
I can't get a full picture of it.

We've been searching for a shower curtain rod,
(not a crappy tension rod),
so far, no luck.

We'll probably end up getting a stupid tension rod
for the time being.

Love my high faucet with pop-up drain plug.

I do not like the shallow bowl in this vanity,
(water splashes everywhere)
but we just bought it two years ago,
so we must keep it.

I like how it looks,
I just don't like how it performs.

Even the toilet got all new parts.

Look at that molding,
thanks to Terry.

When we are done,
I am going to lock the door
and make everyone use the bathroom downstairs.

Just kidding.

Just a few more things to do.

We will be done on day #40.

Day #37 Bath Redo

Second try at the bathtub reglazing...

I did the easy part,
taping off the walls.

Terry did the painting.

This time we (Terry) painted with a roller
 rather than sprayed on.

It looks good,
hope it lasts.

Day #36 Bath Redo

Big, big day !

Got so much done...

Terry's working on molding.

I grouted the mirror tiles.

Terry completely refurbished the door,
and it is ready to hang.

I installed the glass bowls on the lights.

Love, love, love this light fixture.

More painting,
more caulking,
more painting.

More molding,
more caulking,
more painting.

Switchplates, and heater grates, and...

PLUMBING !

New switchplates.

(Still need the top molding on the wallboards).

So happy with how the mirror turned out.

The kids think it's too big.

We are ready for the toilet...

Terry's got this...

There she is.

He installed the sink faucet...

and the shower fixtures,
and we checked everything for leaks.

(So far, so good).

Our list of things to do is getting shorter,
and we feel so good about what we got done today.

I was so excited I took the first poop
in the new bathroom.
