Preparing for the Vanity

Here is the door for the bathroom.
Terry has been working on refinishing it,
and converting  it into a barnstyle closure
(more on that when it's installed).

He is also starting the work on electrical
and plumbing for the vanity area.
This picture is actually a view
 from behund the bathroom wall,
under the basement stairs.

This is where all the magic will happen.
This is where the guts will be.

Some electrical going in.

A new outlet where the vanity will be.

And here is where the vanity will be.
The drainpipe is behind the wall (to the left),
so Terry has to run the pipes through
the side of the vanity, into the wall, and down.

This will be one of his greatest magic tricks ever.

Making a Bathroom Makes Me Tired

Worked on grouting the floor.

Hard on the knees.

Wait for it to dry.
Sponge and wipe, sponge and wipe.

You sneaky son of a bitch...

I was just resting my eyes.
I swear.

Finally laid the basement bathroom floor.

Looks messy.

Another butt shot by Terry.

Ahh, nice.

Grout tomorrow.

Christmas 2014

Busy Christmas week.

Terry fixed mom's leaky sink faucet.

Sandy and I made LOTS of cookies.

Spent Christmas Eve at mom's,
and there's Bob with that giant phone again...

Mom with Terry and Bob.

Kevin and Sandy opened their gifts
 late on Christmas Eve,
and this makes me so happy,
because I can sleep in on Christmas morning.

They're so silly.

Bobby gave us some firewood.
Had a nice raging fire all day today.

Nick and Colleen and Luke spent the afternoon here,
very nice day.

It was a good Christmas.

Should've Been a Roofer

Here's my awful attempt at putting some lights outside.
 It definitely is a talent,
and I don't have any when it comes to this tradition.

A few shingles blew off in the last wind storm,
and I forbade Terry from climbling up there...

The roofer was at our house for exactly ten minutes.
The bill was $250.00.

It took him longer to write out the bill
than how long the job took.

Who makes $250.00 dollars for ten minutes of work?

That's $1,500.00 an hour !!!

It just pisses me off.

Mom's Back in the Hospital

1:00 a.m. at mom's.
Looks like she had a small stroke.
Off to Beaumont...

Following the EMS truck to the hospital.

There's a familiar sight....
She'll be in for a while, lots of tests.

This Week...

Put the tree up, shoppin till I'm droppin,
credit cards are smokin, all ready for Christmas.

Terry is working on the wall for the basement bathroom.
Being held up by my wish for a barn door.
More on that later...

Terry's son got married this week in Hawaii.
Sweet ceremony, and we got to watch via Skype.

While they were gone Terry made a doghouse
 for their puppy, Husky... Perry.

They're gonna love it.

365 Days Through the Project House Portal...

Every day, for one year,
I took a picture from my upstairs window.

Here is an entire year,
at "Project House"

from 11/29/2013 to 11/29/2014

2nd Thanksgiving in Project House

New stairs going in.

I taped it off...

Terry got to work on the back boards.

Roxy slept.

Stop mauling the dog !!!

Wow, the stairs look great !

So happy with this project.

Thanksgiving spread.

My kids.

Random stuff; basement stairs, and Thanksgiving, and dogs, and kids...

I'm tired.

New Basement Stairs for Forty Bucks

Terry sanded and sanded until all of the
paper and glue was off the stair treads.

What we found was cracked and bowed wood on most of the treads.
Say bye-bye.
He's removing the treads and backboards.

What a mess...

I kept busy on my own little project
while he toiled away on the stairs.

The hallway needed attention.

I rubbed the floor with mineral oil,
which brought it back to life...

This little hallway in the center of the house
 was so generically white,
and I was sick of looking at it.

This hallway is the passage to everywhere.
It houses the doorway to the kitchen,
the bathroom, two bedrooms, the livingroom,
and the stairs that lead to the second story.
It is all doorways, with lot's of woodwork.

So, I added some light periwinkle paint,
and a little embellishing trim.
I like it, but the kids do not...

He is a weekend warrior.

He took off all of the treads,
and there were a lot of nails to remove.

He painted the side boards black,
and I made him put the treads back in,
until the new ones are ready to install.

There they are, forty bucks for wood,
and he cut them down to size himself.

He sanded them and put three coats of stain and poly on.

Tomorrow, we'll have brand new basement stairs.

And, we will reuse the old treads as the backboards.

Reuse, repurpose, recycle...

Forty bucks for new basement stairs is quite a deal.

Winter in Fall

There it is. This has us paralyzed; mentally and physically.
It's mid November and temps are in the teens.
We're layering up clothes and watching "Family Feud".
Can't even think about working on projects.

More frigid temps, and snow predicted for the rest of the week...

We need to be gradually reintroduced into winter.
Why does it never happen that way?
