Iguanas and Ice Cream?

Wow. Sunday we had to spend the day
moving things out of Terry's brother's house,
 due to his eviction.

A hoarder and a buyer of "stuff",
we had to move alot of his stuff into our garage,
for safe-keeping.

Biggest surprise of all,
was this giant iguana.

His roommate had left it upstairs when she departed.

I called her and gave her one day to come and get him...

When we got home from our busy day,
Terry was determined to do some work on the porch .

Every time he started working on it,
it started raining.

Nice double rainbow.

And our pet squirrel "Petey" was not deterred by rain.

He got his daily treat.

Let's see that rainbow again...

Sooo...

a day later, we checked in with the brother
and his ex-roommate did not come and retrieve her dinosaur,
so we did what we had to do...

We found a pet store that would take him in.

Here he is on the car ride to the store.

The people at this pet store were so excited to get him,
one of the girls actually cried with happiness.

He was a beauty,
just not our cup of tea.

His body temperture was low,
but these people seemed dedicated to taking good care of him.

We will check back in on him...

On the way home,
we decided we should be rewarded for our good deed.
Ice cream cones!!!

After about five tries, we got the light hung.
We really should try to read directions,
but it seems we are always in a rush,
because we never have time to do things thoughtfully.

Oh well, it looks great...

Still needs the metal roof.

and this messy brickwork under the roof...

Still trying to figure out what we're going to do about this...

Now We're Getting Somewhere

Terry didn't like my last post,
complaining about this project taking so long,
 so we are ON IT.

Braces, (brackets), (corbels),
whatever you want to call them,
They went up.

Red Cedar, hard to work with...

He is an acrobat,
jumping from ladder to ladder...

He has also hidden the electrical in the braces,
and led it into the box where the light will hang.

A trip to Menards and we found a perfect light.

After some tough work,
we had a mini fire and listened to the ballgame on the radio.
Nice night.

Last weekend we took a trip up to see my brother,
and we stopped at the outlet store,
 where I found a raincoat.

I haven't even worn it yet.
God damn it.

He wore it out to the garage...

He said it's a good raincoat.

The Long Long Project

This is the most boring, and the longest project ever.

Trying to put a new back porch cover on this old house
has been long ongoing and just boring.

As always, Terry is doing all of the brainwork on this project,
and I am sitting around wondering why it's not done yet.

We got the top part up:
this took ladders, and braces, and Terry's brute strength,
and now the brackets have to go up...

These suckers are heavy
and need to be attached to concrete and brick.

and of course, me and Terry have to do it all by ourselves.

More planning and more studying before we attempt this feat.

Let's just relax for a while and visit with Petey.

Family, Yardwork, Family

There has been a lot going on lately,
and I haven't had time to post.

One thing we did was to make more room in the garden beds...

and I planted some strawberries.

Mother's Day weekend, Terry and I,
 and Bob and Peggy,
and my nephews (and their wives)
all went to moms and worked in her yard.

One week later, and we were all back there
to visit with our sister Sue and her hubby,
who came home for a visit from North Carolina.

There's Great Aunt Susie with little Kaylee.

While visiting, my sister talked my mom into coming over
to my house for lunch on Monday...

We had Taco Bell and watched "Days of our Lives".

Mom fell asleep.

We had a great visit and then Susie was gone.
Back to N.C.

But I was glad she brought mom over.

Another work week went by...

and we were working in the front yard,
when I had an 'Aha" moment.

"That window is so bare", I thought...

It needs shutters.

Wow, sometimes the littlest details make all the difference.

Terry is back to working on the porch cver...

Hard to tell what's going on here,
but he is working on the framing for the roof.

My little backyard garden is starting to take shape...

and we are trying to grow
a massive amount of grass here.

and that's all for now.

So Much Yardwork

Left this mess to go over to mom's and work on her yard...

5 month old Calvin with his Uncle Scotty

Bob and Terry, gettin' busy.

Everybody showed up on this one.
I was so grateful that me and Terry weren't doing this all by ourselves.
Bob & Peg, and both of their boys really stepped up this year
to help get mom's yard in shape.

It's actually fun when everyone works together.

When we got home Terry just kept on going.
He actually had enough energy left in him to
replace bricks and mortar them.

Looks great.

Back Porch Work

Working on the back porch.
This is the beginning of one of the brackets that will hold up the roof.

That light needs to go,
because the brackets are going there...

I am so sick of these creatures invading my house !!!

The light is gone,
bricks need to be replaced, and mortar:
and electrical needs to be moved for a new light.

Terry has opened up a can of worms with this project...

Hmm...

Terry is putting together the frame
for the new porch cover for the back door...

It's going to be twice as big,
and hopefully a more modern look for the back of the house.

Hmm... Doesn't look like much right now.

In the meantime,
the basement is still leaking like crazy in this one corner.

He is trying every trick in his book to stop it, but it just keeps coming.
We have come to the conclusion that we probably need a new roof
because the water is leaking down from the roof,
inside the walls, and down into the foundation.

There's $5,000 we don't have.

Hmm...

Oh well...
Back to the porch.

The old man at Menards was very helpful,
and we got the cedar boards for the braces,
and the steel roofing materials we need
 for this project.

Getting all of this crap home was a project in itself.

I think he might be losing it........

Hmm...
