Project #2 Done

 

Project #2 is done.

 Terry finished the top last night.

 

And then...

he started hunching over in pain.

 

This morning, he went to the doctor...

and his back is inflamed and having spasms.

 

He got some muscle relaxers...

and insisted on getting the top onto the cabinets,

 before he finally gave in to rest.

 

After he went into his coma,

I put the dining room back together.

 

This has always been my favorite room in the house,

Now, I like it even better.

 

Project #3 will start when Terry's back is better.

 

Molding throughout the main level of the house.

 

Are we getting too old for this stuff?

 

Maybe.

 

 

Top for the Cabinets

 

It was beeeautiful today.

 

Terry glued together, two 8 x 12 wood planks last night,

and today we sanded the crap out of them.

 

Tonight, he starts the stain and polyurathane process.

 

Can't wait to see these cabinets done.

Dining Room Storage

 

This project has been running smoothly.

The placement of the cabinets on the base is complete,

 and I am staining them dark ebony.

 

Terry is raising an outlet above the cabinets,

but there will still be outlets inside the cabinets,

for tech wires and stuff...

 

He's almost done...

 

Finished the stain.

 

Terry is mounting the cabinets,

and building false fronts for the corners.

 

All we need now is a top...

 

This is going to add so much needed storage to

a dead area. Love it.

Project 2 & 3

 

Project 1 was the half bath upstairs, and we finished that, so we moved on to project 2, which was to redo the base molding throughout the main floor of the house, and Terry ripped out all of the molding, but then we realized that the molding was kind of tied into project 3, which is buffet cabinetry in the dining room,

so now we are doing project 3 first......... 

 

I removed the china cabinet and the shelving along the wall,

 and terry is building the kickplate for the cabinets.

 

Just a small base frame to raise the cabinets up off the floor.

 

There's the base frame.

The giant hole filled with insulation is the space that housed the old radiator.

 

Got a great deal on unfinished cabinets.

 They were 25% off, and we got one 36 in. (2) 24 in. and (2) 18 in. cabinets for $200.

 

They are supposed to be upper cabinets,

 but due to the small depth allowance, we had to use them,

and we will transform them into a wall of storage.

 

Confused?

Just wait, it's gonna be awesome.

 

1/2 Bath Finished

 

Terry came home from work and got right to the electrical...

 

He had to re-route the wiring from the side sconces to over the top of the new mirror.

 

He got the new light fixture up,

and then it took us about an hour just to hang the mirror level.

 

I wish I had taken a video of that.

 

Vanity in, and trying to reconfigure the plumbing...

It looks great.

 

New flooring, molding, vanity and faucet, mirror, and light fixture. 

 

A few hundred bucks, and a big difference.

 

On to project #2.

1/2 Bath Project Running Smoothly

 

Grouting the floor, with my little helper.

 

All done.

 It was my first time using black grout,

messy but I like it.

 

Toilet and vanity top in the bedroom.

 

This wall is about to be transformed,

 but a couple things first...

 

Molding.

 

New mirror and lighting, can't wait.

 

Super tall molding, and customized shoe molding,

 is going to look awesome.

 

Vanity in the hallway...

 

Oh so happy. Terry did a beautiful job on the molding.

 

The toilet is back. Yay !

 

Tomorrow we work on moving the electrical for the light fixtures.

 

Always a good time.

1/2 Bath Redo

We have three projects to get done before summer comes:

 

1: Second story half bath, new tile and new vanity.

2: New molding throughout the first floor living and dining room

3: Buffet style cabinets in the dining room.

 

Here we go...

 We got started on the half bath upstairs. Yesterday, we went to Home Depot and bought the tile, but they didn't have a vanity we liked, so we went to Lowes and found the perfect vanity, but they were out of stock; we went to three different Lowes to get the vanity we wanted. So the whole night was wasted driving across town, back and forth.

 

 

Terry did the demo: he had to jackhammer out the old ceramic base molding,

 and he tore out two layers of tile.

 

Time to remove the toilet and the old style sink.

 

That wasn't too hard...

 

Laying out the tile to measure for cuts.

 

This space is so small, only 30 square feet, so we were able to splurge on some nice tile.

 It is Italian porcelain, in 6 x 24 inch planks, made to look like reclaimed wood.

I love it. 

 

There's where the toilet ended up...

 

Terry made all the cuts, and mixed up the thin set, and now I get to work.

 

The cuts around the toilet are always the tricky part.

 

Done. Tomorrow, I grout.

 

New faucet for the new sink and vanity.

 

The vanity is still sitting in the garage, and I forgot to take a picture.

 

This project isn't going to take long at all.
